Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Become a certified Trainer of TAPTCO
• Become a certified Trainer of Defensive Driving, CPR, First Aid and AED through the National Safety Council.
• Track all training completed and expiration date by employee.
• Ensure all required training is scheduled; coordinate with supervisors the best time for training to be held; notify appropriate employees when and where they are required to attend training
• Conduct training to the best of your ability to all necessary training; answer any questions employees may have; ensure employees have completely understood the information presented prior to the dismissal of class
• Training to be conducted includes, but is not limited to: Bloodborne Pathogens, Bus Stops, Flag Stops, Customer Service, Defensive Driving, Driven to Distraction, Emergency Preparedness Plans, Fare Box Procedure, Fire Extinguisher/Emergency Evacuations, Employee Injury Reporting Procedures, National Emergency Management System, PASS Training, Pre and Post Trip Inspections, Principles of Report Writing, Radio Communications, Security Systems/Warning Systems, Sexual Harassment, Substance Abuse/Drug & Alcohol Abuse Awareness, Violence in the Workplace, Remedial Training, and others as required
• Train Bus Operators on how to fill and use the propane and gas pumps; train Bus Operators on how to operate vehicles with propane
• Train new staff or current staff on obtaining their Commercial Driver License (CDL), class B and the passenger endorsements. No other segments are taught through Shore Transit. These trainings start in TAPTCO, hands on training for pre-trip/post-trip, on the road training and include organizing and accompanying testing through the Department of Motor Vehicles.
• Ensures an adequate amount of training supplies are on-hand
• Provide training and experience to employees hired or transitioning into a Bus Operator position that need to obtain a Commercial Driver License and/or endorsements
• Monitors Shore Transit, inside and outside, for safety issues; if unable to handle reports safety issues to the Risk Manager
• Fill in as a route driver as schedule permits.

Education and/or Experience

• Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

• Intermediate skills- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

• Basic skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

• Intermediate skills – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

• Possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver License – Class B with passenger endorsement.
• Driving record must have no more than 3 points.
• Possess and maintain a valid DOT Physical Card
